Alternative Materials for ETFE Membranes

In the field of solar panel packaging, while ETFE film materials are popular for their excellent performance, other alternative materials do exist. Here are some possible alternative materials and their characteristics:

PET (polyethylene terephthalate) :
Advantages: PET is another commonly used solar panel packaging material, especially for flexible solar panels. It also has good light transmission and weather resistance, and the price may be more affordable than ETFE.

Disadvantages: Compared to ETFE, PET is slightly less transparent and may not have the same self-cleaning features as ETFE.

EVA (ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer) :
Use: EVA is mainly used for the packaging film of solar panels, rather than directly as the outer packaging material. It acts as an adhesive that holds the solar cells, the top and the back together.

Features: EVA has the characteristics of high light transmittance, resistance to UV moisture and heat yellowing, good adhesion, etc., but it may have the problems of high water transmittance and easy to produce PID (potential potential induced attenuation) phenomenon.

POE (Polyolefin elastomer) film:
Advantages: POE film has higher water vapor barrier rate, weather resistance and stronger anti-PID performance, and its water vapor transmittance is only 1/8 of EVA film, which can effectively reduce PID effect.

Disadvantages: The price of POE film is high, and it is easy to produce bubbles in the process of use, and the lamination yield of photovoltaic modules is low, while the material is heavily dependent on imports, and the procurement cost is high.

EPE (EVA-POE-EVA) Film:
Features: EPE film is "EVa-POE-EVA" 3-layer composite structural film, combining the high water resistance and high PID resistance of POE film and the lamination process characteristics of EVA film's double glass component with high yield.

Application: Suitable for PERC double-sided double glass, N-type double-sided double glass and other photovoltaic modules with high weather resistance requirements.

Tedlar Composite film (polyethylene composite film) :
Uses: Tedlar composite film is often used in the backplane material of solar panels, with good moisture and acid resistance.

Features: As a backplane material, Tedlar composite films provide additional protection for solar panels and help improve the durability of the overall components.

While ETFE film materials offer significant advantages in the field of solar panel packaging, materials such as PET, EVA, POE, EPE and Tedlar composite films also offer different options and characteristics.

The choice of material depends on the specific application needs, cost considerations and performance requirements.
