1. Superior Light Transmittance and Photothermal Control
High Light Transmittance: With a light transmittance of up to 95%, comparable to glass, it provides abundant, uniform, and soft natural light indoors, significantly reducing the need for artificial lighting during the day and resulting in significant energy savings.
Adjustable Shading/Insulation Performance: ETFE is often manufactured using multi-layered inflatable air cushions. This is achieved through:
Printed Patterns: Printing silver dots of varying densities on the membrane surface allows for precise adjustment of the shading coefficient and light transmittance.
Adjustable Air Pressure: Changing the air pressure within the air cushion alters its curvature and structural stiffness, fine-tuning performance.
Controlled Layers: Using two, three, or four layers of air cushions, forming a sealed air layer in between, provides excellent thermal insulation performance.
2. Extreme Lightweight and High Strength
Extremely Lightweight: The weight per unit area of ETFE film is only 1% of that of glass of the same area. This means:
The main support structure (steel structure, cable net) can be made thinner and lighter, significantly reducing structural load and foundation costs. This achieves a large span and a light, flowing visual design that is impossible with traditional materials.
High strength and good toughness: High tensile strength, elongation exceeding 400%, and excellent tear resistance and impact toughness. Even if punctured, the tear will not easily propagate, ensuring high safety.
3. Superior weather resistance and ultra-long lifespan: Excellent chemical stability: Virtually unaffected by UV radiation, chemical pollution, and extreme weather (-200°C to 150°C), it does not age, yellow, or become brittle.
Long service life: Under normal use and maintenance, its theoretical service life can reach over 25 years. Exposed ETFE air cushion systems typically have an expected lifespan exceeding 20 years.
4. Excellent self-cleaning properties and easy maintenance: Extremely low surface energy: The membrane surface is very smooth and has a "non-stick" property, making it difficult for dust and dirt to adhere.
Rainwater self-cleaning: Most stains can be naturally washed away by rainwater, resulting in extremely low maintenance costs, making it particularly suitable for large or difficult-to-clean roofs. Easy maintenance: If a single-layer ETFE membrane is damaged, it can be repaired or replaced very quickly without affecting the overall structure.
